Renault Laguna II has practically grown in our hands. When this model appeared in Ukraine, "Autocenter" took it for a long-term test. We have been actively exploiting the "Frenchman" for a whole year, figuring out its consumer characteristics. Time passed, and the second generation Laguna has already passed into the category of used vehicles, and almost 8 years of experience of driving this car on our roads has revealed its strengths and weaknesses.
Most of all, during the restyling, the front end has changed. Versions up to 2005 had a branded emblem on the hood, then it was transferred to the radiator grille.
Traditionally, for this model, Laguna II w https://cars45.com.gh/listing/renault/laguna as presented in two modifications: a 5-door liftback and a 5-door station wagon. Both versions were on sale with us officially. The bodies of this model are galvanized, and some parts (front fenders and the trunk lid of the station wagon) are generally made of plastic, which makes the Laguna highly corrosion resistant. It should be noted that the Laguna II is also an excellent "bodyguard": it became the first car in the history of EuroNCAP safety tests, which managed to win 5 stars.
Externally, the dashboards before (photo above) and after restyling are very similar. But the new dashboard is made of better materials, and the protective door on the center console now only covers the pocket for small things.
On request, versions after 2005 could be equipped with an "electric hand", the activation lever of which is located at the bottom of the torpedo.
Five years after the start of production, the model underwent restyling: the front of the car was noticeably transformed and the rear was slightly changed, the interior changed. In the course of the modernization, the quality of finishing materials has noticeably improved - the hard plastic used until 2005, which often creates extraneous noise, has disappeared. On pre-styling versions, the front seats can also creak.
But other comments apply to all machines without exception. So, wedging of the electric drive for opening the gas tank flap, failures of door limit switches built into the locks, oxidation of contacts in the wiring connectors located on the door pillars, failures of CD-players of the branded radio (the radio works, but does not "read" disks) were noted. Fortunately, the radio tape recorder can be easily replaced with any other - it is of the standard I-DIN size. The claim to visibility - because of the inflated "stern", the extreme rear clearance is not visible.
At the same time, Laguna is capable of attracting a rich package, good interior noise insulation and various unusual features. For example, a card that replaces the usual keys. With its help, the door locks are blocked and unlocked. Moreover, there are cards equipped with the AutoLock system - the security system recognizes "its" card and automatically unlocks the locks as soon as a person pulls the door handle. The Laguna also does not have a traditional ignition switch: the engine is started with the Start / stop button. On pre-styling versions, you first need to insert the card into the card collector, and on some post-styling versions it can remain in your pocket.
There is enough free space in the gallery from the knees to the backs of the front seats, but there is not much overhead, and even a person of average height sitting in the middle will support the ceiling.
The cards are not durable - their plastic cover is scratched. Control buttons and battery contact groups may also break.
Officially, we only sold petrol versions of the Laguna. Rare diesel engines were brought to Ukraine by domestic ferrymen. Due to the low distribution, the experts who consulted us could not share the experience of operating engines that consume diesel fuel. Also, cars with 2.0 liter Turbo and 3.0 liter gasoline engines are not often found.
A characteristic weak point of atmospheric units with a volume of 1.6 liters (released after 2005) and 2.0 liters is a short-lived mechanism for changing the valve timing (branded spare part - 1200 UAH).
